This media is ideal for printing photo quality water-resistant stickers, decals and labels using home inkjet printers. This product is not suitable for laser printers. The media is made from a PET vinyl film and not PVC like other products. The acronym, PET stands for Polyethylene Terephthalate. Polyethylene is a polymerized thermoplastic ethylene resin, used to make the vinyl film and Terephthalate is a thermoplastic polyester resin made from ethylene glycol and terephthalic acid, also used to make films or fibres, like what is used for water bottles. Polyethylene terephthalate has high strength, is flexible and resistant to abrasion.
Inkjet printers typically use water based dye inks. Making a water based ink water resistant (effectively waterproof) is a complex process. A special coating is used on the media which will crystalize when exposed to water (to protect the dye ink print). This coating can appear tacky and discoloured when wet but returns to normal once dry.
IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS BEFORE PURCHASE:
This product is not designed for commercial or outdoor use. This is a hobby product and is designed for home use. Home inkjet printers typically use dye based inks which tend to fade quickly when exposed to direct sun or high amounts of UV light. The fade life of the print is determined by the ink. Whilst it is not recommended some buyers do use it for commercial purposes by coating the sticker with an overlaminate or protective liquid to prolong fade life and enhance durability and water resistance.
